Marsden Fund Talanoa Series

Fofonga for Pacific Research Excellence hosted a Talanoa series highlighting the experiences, successes, and insights of Pacific Marsden recipients from Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland. The series featured Associate Professor Tamasailau Sualii who was awarded a Standard Grant in 2017, Dr Sam Manuela who was awarded a Fast Start Grant in 2020, Associate Professor Guy Sinclair who was awarded a Fast-Start Grant in 2017. These sessions were aimed to provide our applicants with practical advice and guidance, but also an informal opportunity to talanoa and share their ideas.

Associate Professor Guy Sinclair: In 2017 Dr Sinclair was awarded a Marsden Fund Fast-Start grant to explore the origins of the international economic legal system from the Second World War until the present. His research analysed the development of key global institutions such as the World Trade Organisation, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank.

Associate Professor Tamasailau Sualii-Sauni: in 2017 Associate Professor Tamasailau Sualii-Sauni was awarded a Standard Grant, a research project looking at Māori and Samoan experiences of youth justice in New Zealand, Australia and the United States.

Dr Sam Manuela: in 2020, Dr Sam Manuela was awarded a Fast-Start Grant, examining how Pacific psychologists have integrated their training and indigenous knowledge into this practice, despite having not been taught how to accomplish this within traditional teaching of psychology.
